Invitation to Attend FECCA 2017

Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory Inc

The Multicultural Council of the Northern Territory (MCNT) is proud to co-host the FECCA biennial national conference 2017, here in the Top End of Australia.

Diversity has defined our city throughout its history. With our close proximity to Asia, we have welcomed new-comers from all over the world from the pioneering days to date. While embracing the melting pot of cultures encompassing the rich heritage of the traditional custodians the Larrakia People, Anglo Australians, and newer migrants, our well-integrated population celebrates a proud common identity as Territorians and Australians. Together, we have shared in Darwin’s resilient history, rebuilding it twice after the bombings in 1942 and Cyclone Tracy in 1974. The prominence of Darwin’s multicultural communities during this period is clearly demonstrated in the fact that just three years later, in 1977, the Ethnic Communities Council of the Northern Territory (as the MCNT was then known) was formed.

We now look forward to sharing in the celebration of our 40th anniversary with the wider FECCA family. With a colourful multicultural history, and home to the youngest per capita population in the country, Darwin stands ready to host an insightful conference, exploring the role of multiculturalism in modern day Australia and the opportunities and challenges for the future. An added feature of the conference will be a full-day youth event, run in partnership with our youth arm, Multicultural Youth NT (MyNT).

Scheduled for the tail end of the dry season, the conference program will allow delegates to enjoy our tropical city at its best, featuring our night markets and world-class sunsets at the famous Mindil Beach (amongst many others). We invite you to join us for an unforgettably unique Darwin experience at the 2017 FECCA conference.
